The Environment

We know that we could probably do (or not do) more to be “greener” and be more ethical consumers. But this is what we try to do:

  • buy local
  • buy fair-trade
  • source free-range and organic produce as far as practically possible

We use local butchers and suppliers who ensure that meat and other produce is sourced from known farms within 15 miles; we buy local eggs and our  organic cheese is from Slack House farm ½ mile away. We try to source seasonal fruit and vegetables  – either from our own garden or locally – though this is not always feasible in terms of supply or cost to you.

Most of our guests stay only one night so, where possible we launder your towels at 30 degrees. We line-dry – weather permitting! – and avoid the tumble-dryer though this means your towels may not appear to be very fluffy! We NEVER use chemical fabric softeners.   If you are staying with us multiple nights we change your linens every 3 or 4 days.  We are happy to adapt this schedule to suit your needs if you let us know.  We use the most environmentally-friendly laundry service we could find for linens.

We also try to balance your comfort in terms of heating and lighting with the need to save the Earth’s resources – we hope we get this right for you.
